Scrapping Your Car in Delhi, Mumbai, or Bangalore — What's Different?
RVSF availability, scrap rates, and RTO process vary by city. Here's what to know before you scrap in India's major metros.
India's car scrappage ecosystem isn't uniform across cities. RVSF density, scrap metal rates, and the pace of RTO processing all vary. If you're in one of India's six major metros, here's what you should know before you initiate the process.
Delhi / NCR
Delhi has one of the highest concentrations of overage vehicles in India — over 61 lakh as of 2025 — and is correspondingly one of the most active markets for RVSF operations. The NGT (National Green Tribunal) has set strict deadlines for overage diesel vehicles, making Delhi car owners among the most time-pressured. Scrap rates in Delhi are competitive, typically at or above the national average. RTO processing in Delhi (particularly RTO offices in Saket, Mayur Vihar, and Rohini) can be slow — allow 4–8 weeks for full RC cancellation.
Mumbai / MMR
Mumbai's RVSF network is well-developed, with facilities in Bhiwandi, Navi Mumbai, and Thane handling high volumes. Scrap metal rates in Mumbai are among the highest in India given proximity to steel processing plants. The Maharashtra state government offers some of the better road tax rebate structures in the country, making the RVSF route particularly financially attractive for Mumbai car owners.
Bangalore
Bangalore's scrap market has grown significantly following the 2022 enforcement of overage diesel vehicle rules by the BBMP. RVSF capacity has expanded to meet demand. Scrap rates are slightly below Delhi and Mumbai due to transportation costs to processing centres, but Karnataka's tax structure and rebate policy make the overall economics comparable.
Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai
All three cities have active RVSF networks and reasonable RTO turnaround times. Hyderabad and Chennai benefit from proximity to industrial clusters, keeping scrap rates competitive. Pune car owners benefit from Maharashtra's state incentives (same as Mumbai). All three cities are served by AfterCarz with doorstep pickup and full RC support.
